WHAT IS PAKOUR
Parkour can be said to be
a phenomenon, a philosophy, a martial art or simply put
means to exercise the body, but these definitions were stated
after it was created for a purpose. The sole purpose it
served was to move as fast as possible through varied
objects in a path with the least amount of energy being
expended. The movement was dictated by the obstacle and
not by some random compulsion to jump over or duck under
it. The problem being the obstacle need to be
understood, analyzed and a solution, the movement
suitable for it devised.
So parkour is not about
athletic prowess or stamina but about a quicker and
stronger mind than rest of the body.
WHAT IS FREERUNNING
Freerunning as the name
implies, it is Free Running. To run through an obstacle
as one desires, it does not need to be the quickest, the
most efficient or the slowest or the most elegant. In
freerunning the runner decides how to overcome an
obstacle as he desires with or without taking into
consideration the quickest and most efficient move
suited for the obstacle. The basic difference between
Parkour and Freerunning is of need and desire. In
Parkour the need is of quickest and efficient while in
Freerunning it is about desire how to perform a
movement.
